When times get tough, I go inside, locking myself away in the chamber of my mind. The pandemic intensified that response from me and ultimately manifested in deep sickness of mind, body, and spirit. These pieces sport exoskeletons and thorns, devices many creatures have evolved as protective devices against the harsh outside world. Their thorns are intended to ward off and further safeguard them from myriad potential harms. Ironically, the tough exterior doesn’t protect against the worst torment and damage, which is inflicted from within.
